Roughness
The roughness data is required if you wish to calculate wind flow using WAsP within WindFarmer: Analyst.
Import a roughness file | Roughness is accepted by WindFarmer:Analyst in the WAsP .map format. |
It is convienient to rely on online land cover databases such as the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service to obtain roughness data. Although these cannot yet be directly accessed from within WindFarmer: Analyst, it is possible to download and process them into a WAsP .map file using WAsP QGIS scripts, as demonstrated in the below video. The entire process should not take longer then a few minutes.
The external tools used in the video are:
- QGIS [ver. 3.34]
- QGIS WAsP scripts [ver. 11]
Both are freeware.
The Polish Onshore Demo QGIS project is in WindFarmer automation GitHub repository.
Note:
- a .map file containing both elevations and roughness will be split after import and displayed as separate map layers.
- if you want to delete both roughness and elevation contours after importing a combined map you must delete the 2 layers separately.
